The first undersea electricity interconnection between Spain and France will connect Gatika in Spain with Cubnezais in France, increasing the electricity exchange capacity from 2,800 MW to 5,000 MW.
This project aims to improve the security and stability of electricity supply between the two countries and with Europe. Civil engineering works include the construction of platforms, installation of power junction bays, access roads and laying platforms, and boreholes for river crossings. Two converter stations will also be built and around 400 km of cable will be laid. The aim is to create an interconnected energy union, promoting renewable energies and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
